This afternoon I came across something that may be of use to those of you feeling like you need some help with your cleaning and upkeep of the home but don’t know where to start.
By devising a cleaning routine and calendar that works for you, you will be able to keep your daily housekeeping tasks to 15-30 minutes a day and this simple plan is all you need to get started!

Good housekeeping

18/3/2016

Welcome back Tidytimers, this week I have been drawing up training plans for the staff and outlined a few important factors that may come in handy to yourselves when it comes to good housekeeping practices so I have outlined a few below.

What are some benefits of good housekeeping practices?

Effective housekeeping results in:
  • reduced handling to ease the flow of materials
  • fewer tripping and slipping accidents in clutter-free and spill-free work areas
  • decreased fire hazards
  • lower exposure to hazardous substances (e.g. dusts, vapours)
  • better control of tools and materials, including inventory and supplies
  • more efficient equipment cleanup and maintenance
  • better hygienic conditions leading to improved health
  • more effective use of space
  • reduced property damage by improving preventive maintenance
  • less time tidying up and more time cleaning
  • improved morale
  • improved productivity (tools and materials will be easy to find)

Effective housekeeping can help get a job done safely and efficiently. Poor housekeeping can frequently contribute to accidents by hiding hazards that cause injuries. If the sight of paper, debris, clutter and spills is accepted as normal, then other more serious health and safety hazards may be taken for granted.

That's all for this week, hope some of you find this information useful.

Until next time Tidytimers!
Thanks for reading.

DIY stain removal on white painted wooden furniture

18/12/2015

I have this wooden TV unit that I painted and distressed myself, it takes pride of place and is the focal point in my living room. Unfortunately I have found that when things are handmade they are not as robust and resistant to a good old scrubbing without removing some of the paint, not to mention all my hard work! So you can imagine my frustration when I found a few nasty tea stains on my mini masterpiece. At first attempted to wipe it down with water but the stain was stubborn and set in, so after some deep thought I came across this simple & natural method for stain removal - lemon juice! And you won't believe how well it works. It is both natural & gentle, (I use it to whiten my teeth daily so I was confident it was the best option for my once white TV unit) also it is low enough for my son to reach so I didn't fancy using any harsh chemicals as he plays with his toys & occasionally eats his snacks off there. So anyway here is how I did it, & a few photos to follow in this slideshow..
So as you can see there were some really tough sticky marks (from grubby little fingers) alongside the watermarks/tea stains that also needed removing with as little damage possible, if you're interested in trying this out for yourself then all you need to do is follow these steps:
  1. Cut a fresh lemon in half and squeeze out the juice (if you don't have a juicer like myself then a fork will do the job just fine, just make sure you have a sieve over the bowl to catch any seeds or pulp)
  2. Using a cotton pad, dip it in the fresh lemon juice and apply to the affected areas
  3. Leave for a few minutes ( depending on the intensity of the stain)
  4. Gently wipe with a water soaked cotton pad
That's it! Good as new and has now got a lovely sheen aswell as a gorgeous scent - ready for the next time someone forgets to use a coaster but next time i'll be prepared.
Thanks for reading guys, take care until next time.
